Why I don't want to be happy.

This is the promise we are constantly bombarded with- what the world is tirelessly telling us(or at least certainly our country), that if you can just get happiness, you'll have everything.

Like as if it's something you can consume…

And it looks a lot like this.

Work as little as possible. Avoid all trouble, pain, problems, or potential difficulties, by always focusing solely on activities that accentuate your leisure. The movement you begin to feel any hint of discomfort, ease yourself by ejecting from whatever stimulates this feeling. Make sure to get anything and everything you could possibly want, whether or not it truly makes any sense, or will actually enhance your life. And somehow, most importantly, do all these things while having more money than you could possibly ever use.

Mostly, there are two kinds of outcomes from this that I've seen. There are people who work tirelessly, with much anxiety, displeasure, and discontentedness to get there whether or not they actually make it, and those who have "made it", and are deeply, sorely met by the soul devastating agony of a promise unfulfilled.

So I wanna dive in. I don't want to always seek to create a butterfly, dreamland, non-reality like I'm told to.  I want to feel the pain (and also joy) of my own life. I want to live in my true and actual story- I want to know what it is, and not avoid it.

No, I don't want to be "happy". Please, and no thank-you.
